The Ministry of General and Vocational Education, Science, Research and Culture of the State of Schleswig-Holstein has extended its state-wide agreement with itslearning, the digital learning platform

[Berlin/Bergen 05.08.25] – The new contract came into effect on August 1, 2025, and will run for four years, with an option to extend for an additional two years. This marks a continued commitment to a successful partnership that began in 2020.

“A powerful learning management system is the foundation for modern teaching and sustainable digital school development. With the long-term provision of itslearning, we are creating reliability for schools and educators — strengthening digital learning as part of everyday education.

Thomas von der Heide, State Secretary for Education in Schleswig Holstein

Currently, 551 schools across the state are actively using the platform. As digital infrastructure becomes a permanent part of classroom instruction, the ministry anticipates continued growth in user numbers. The agreement encompasses all 803 public schools in the region, potentially reaching 378,700 students and 28,300 teachers.

This contract extension reflects Schleswig-Holstein’s long-term strategy to advance digital education and supports the development of digitally enabled learning structures. It also reaffirms the status of itslearning as a reliable and established tool in daily school life.

The collaboration aligns with Germany’s broader national strategy to systematically expand digital education. The aim is to enhance learning flexibility, streamline organisational workflows, and ensure high pedagogical standards through digital tools.

“itslearning has become an integral part of everyday teaching in many schools across the state. We are proud to continue serving as a reliable partner for schools in Schleswig-Holstein – not only by providing robust technical infrastructure, but more importantly, by supporting the core of education: effective teaching, meaningful learning, and daily student support."

Malte Grebe, Managing Director of itslearning German

Under the renewed contract, all public schools in Schleswig-Holstein will continue to have full access to the platform, including hosting, support, technical integrations, and ongoing development. The platform is fully GDPR-compliant and ISO 27001-certified, ensuring maximum data security and operational stability.

For schools, this ensures the ability to digitally manage processes and design lessons efficiently, all on a stable and secure technical foundation they can rely on.

A particular focus is placed on practical features that simplify everyday school life — such as the ability to map and manage school-specific curricula directly within the platform, guide learning processes in a targeted way, and streamline communication with parents.

In this way, itslearning not only supports the digital organisation of schools, but also helps reduce teachers’ workloads and strengthens collaboration across the entire school community.
